Ronald V. “Van” Simmons,
Director, Fixed Income Technology, INVESCO Institutional, Boston,

architecture is the decomposition of all major IT functions
into a set of grid-based services. Discussion will center on
the use of Jini for resource discovery, JavaSpaces for
analytics distribution, JSP/Servlets for application
deployment, means of interacting with legacy systems, and
the potential for outsourcing tasks such as feed handling
and reference data gathering. |

Executive
Plenary - “Leveraging Java For 21st Century Banking
– A case study
on Business, Technology and Organizational drivers”
Presented by
Gilles Acogny,
Marketing & Global Accounts Director and Mike
Hosking,
Development Director, Midas, Misys International Banking Systems,
London, UK.
In
the late 90’s, banks were reluctant to adopt new technologies as
most of the activities were handled on a local and regional level.
Now, because of increased security demands associated with
settlement, processing, trades and messaging, the demand for the
banking industry to globalize is becoming increasingly critical.
These financial institutions must address management and regulator
information needs on all levels - local, regional and
international. They need to respond rapidly to their customers
with superior technology tools such same day trade settlements and
STP, which shorten the gap between the Front and Back Office
operations. Furthermore, banks must anticipate and evolve
with advancements resulting from the dotcom era and the adoption
of J2EE and web services.
In
this presentation, Gilles Acogny and Mike Hosking of Misys
International Banking Systems will address the need for banks to
adopt leading edge Java technologies to ensure that they stay
ahead of their game. |

“Megatrends
– How Technology Transforms Finance”
Presented
by Till
Guldimann, Vice Chairman, SunGard, Saratoga, CA
Megatrends in Finance. Advances in information technology
(capacity, speed and price) are well understood. Their
continuing profound impact of the structure of the financial
markets is less so. 9/11 illustrated how interconnected and
interdependent market participants have become. Political
initiatives to protect the privacy of individuals from the
power of data accumulators is another sign of change. Expect
more surprises, not less. Followed
by dessert service and coffee in Technology Showcase exhibit
