Pre-Conference Training Seminar A Practical Guide to Web Services and Java Day/Time: Tuesday, February 4, 2003, 8.30am - Noon. Presenter: Anne Thomas Manes, CEO Bowlight Audience: System Architects and Java Developers Prerequisites: A basic understanding of XML, Java, J2EE, and distributed computing techniques Description: Are you thinking about starting a Web services project? Would you like some help figuring out how best to use this technology? And maybe exactly what pieces you need to get started? This 3-hour session starts with a quick overview of basic Web services concepts, followed by a thorough discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of this new type of middleware. We'll examine the core Web services technologies (XML/SOAP/WSDL/UDDI) and some of the new extensions being developed for security, transactions, and management. Then we'll take a look at how to use these technologies with Java. We'll review the standard Java APIs for Web services (the JAX Pack). We'll talk about how a Web service platform fits into J2EE and your specific environment. We'll also review the various open source and commercial SOAP implementations available for Java. We'll even do a little code comparison. We'll finish up with some guidelines to help you in your technical evaluation of a Web services platform. Click here to register for this training seminar.
