Welcome to the Lighthouse Beacon - a blog about Transformational Technology, DecentraTech and sometimes about Intellectual Capital

Welcome to the Lighthouse Beacon – your regular must-read shallow dive into the worlds of technologies that transform, and which enable decentralization. And along the way, it will showcase some of the companies leading the way in these areas and highlight what intellectual capital they bring to their endeavors. For this first post, it will explain some basic terms that we use a lot at Lighthouse Partners, and which you’ll see in this blog.

So, what is transformational technology?

Some might say artificial intelligence is a good example. So, I asked Microsoft Copilot for a definition, and it replied with the following:

Transformational technology refers to innovations that bring about significant changes in society, industries, or daily life by fundamentally altering how tasks are performed or how systems operate. These technologies often lead to new ways of thinking, working, and interacting, creating profound and lasting impacts.

What is DecentraTech all about?

Taking a lead from FinTech, HealthTech, etc., DecentraTech refers to technologies that enable decentralization of processes, with an emphasis on business activities. Think of blockchain (especially public platforms) to underpin trust, crypto for value transfer, self-sovereign identity for personal information ownership, zero knowledge and homomorphic encryption concepts for transactional information privacy, and decentralized physical infrastructure for unlimited hacker and censorship-resistant storage and compute.

DecentraTech is certainly transformational but it’s also a work in progress. Proponents often gloss over this aspect, which is a shortsighted position to take for those of us that want to see the benefits of decentralization sooner than later. Critics meanwhile point to real shortcomings that need to be overcome, including performance, scalability, and ease-of-use. Fortunately, many of the innovators that are showcased by the DecentraTech Collective are working to address these issues.

What does intellectual capital mean?

Complementary to a company’s financial capital, intellectual capital refers to the intangible assets that contribute to a company’s value and competitive advantage. This includes collective knowledge, skills, pedigree, capabilities (including products and IP), and customer base, as well as relationships with advisors, alliances, and partners. approach to drive our evangelism.

Lighthouse Partners works with its clients to assess their intellectual capital as a key input to crafting tailored marketing programs that are used to articulate advocacy, thought leadership and community building.
